Gerald Finzi’s jubilant God is Gone Up celebrates triumph over earthly bounds with radiant English fanfare, completing a profound arc from contemplation to celebration.

Celestial Escape

Be swept away in the beauty and sounds of works that point our gaze upward, as we look beyond the stars for inspiration, strength, and humility. Framing works by Brahms, Handel and Haydn is a collection of works by esteemed living composers Ēriks Ešenvalds, Shawn Kirshner, and Molly Ijames. At the center of the program is Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music, an elaborate and grand musical setting of text from Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice.
