Greater South Jersey Chorus welcomes new Artistic Director, Dr. Christopher Thomas, starting in January 2016. Currently Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities at Rowan University, Dr. Thomas comes to our chorus with vast choral and vocal experience. Dr. Thomas holds a DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona and is President-Elect of New Jersey-American Choral Directors Association.
Having led university and high school choirs, community choruses, and several church choirs, Dr. Thomas has worked with singers of all ages with a wide range of musicianship from volunteers with little vocal experience to graduate conservatory students. He also has made music conference presentations, has been guest conductor and adjudicator at numerous national and international music festivals and conferences, and has participated at the board level in a number of professional choral organizations.
As a conductor, Dr. Thomas has prepared singers and instrumentalists in diverse repertoire from Haydn, Mendelssohn, and Poulenc to Rutter and Lauridsen. Also a solo vocalist, he has performed widely in a range of major choral works, including Mozart’s Requiem, Vaughn Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, and most recently, Bizet’s Agnus Dei.
We are delighted to have secured this talented individual as Artistic Director of Greater South Jersey Chorus and look forward to Dr. Christopher Thomas’ leadership in our first season of making beautiful music under his baton.
